Office tools that actually get used in my home office

There’s a special category of office supplies that look cute but slowly migrate into a drawer, never to be touched again. This is not that list!

These are the tools and supplies that earn their desk space in my office – the ones I reach for daily, repurchase without regret, or immediately miss when they’re gone. Practical, yes. But still fun, colorful, and personality-forward.

Here’s what’s actually getting used in my office:

1 — A solid printer. I chose this one because it can print up to 11×17″ and can use affordable non propriety ink replacements! Canon Pixma IX6820

2 — If your outlets are awkward, far away, or perpetually full, this solves it instantly. Clamping a mounting power strip directly onto the desk keeps cords accessible without crawling on the floor or ruining the vibe.

3 — This is more for aesthetics, but come on, an adorable mini persian rug mouse pad?!

4 — One good pen beats a drawer full of mediocre ones. This Writech fountain pen is the pen that lives on the desk and travels in every bag. It writes smoothly and ink cartridges can be easily swapped out.

5 — Whether it’s for planning, logging, or light journaling, having one specific notebook/planner makes it more likely to get used. This one specifically is the viral Hobonichi weeks that I have fallen deeply in love with. This and this is a great alternative.

6 — Idk about you, but absolutely hate cold coffee. This one feels indulgent until you realize how often your coffee goes untouched while you’re working. A temperature-controlled mug keeps drinks warm through emails, meetings, and distractions.

7– The Bose Quiet Comfort Ultra is hands down the most used item in my list. These instantly turn “busy environment” into “I can focus now.” Whether for music, podcasts, or silence, they’re essential if you work from home or shared spaces.

8– I have been on the struggle bus of keeping my desk organized of cords. Instead of scattered cables, one clean charging hub keeps everything in one place—phone, watch, headphones. It’s functional and visually calming. I almost always take this on trips with me to keep the chords to a minimum.

9– If you’re like me and run cold, this heated desk mat was a godsend. Now my hands are nice and toasty while working.
